Read the first verse of the page with two or three words from the next verse with focus.
Repeat it out loud 10 times. Then read it to yourself once without looking at the Qur’an.
Then move to the second verse; read it with two or three words from the verse after it 10 times, then read it to yourself once without looking at the Qur’an.
After that join the first verse with the second and read them from the Qur’an three times, then read them without looking.
Continue with this method for the rest of the page.
Then move to the third verse; read it with two or three words from the verse after it 10 times, then read it to yourself once without looking at the Qur’an.
Then join the first verse with the second and third; read them from the Qur’an three times, then read them without looking. When you finish memorizing the page, you must link it to the first verse of the next page.
After this, the page will be in your short term memory – you may forget it after a few weeks. So, how do you move it to your long term memory? –
Read the page you have memorized 20 times while looking in the Qur’an (it would be good to follow with your finger under the lines) -Then read it 10 times without looking This memorization will stay and you will not forget it, if Allah wills.
Make the intention to revise it without looking in the Qur’an. You must revise the last page you memorized 5 times, and the page before that once. Someone who has reached page 20 should revise page 19 five times, and every page before that once.
You do this daily until you have memorized 2 Juz’ (parts) of the Qur’an, then you divide what you have memorized into 4 and revise 1 quarter every day. A person who has memorized 8 Juz’ revises all of it every 4 days – every time the memorization increases, the revision increases too.
The comforting thing about this is that a person who does this does not need to set times for revision. Why? Because he does not need to read from the Qur’an – he can can read at any time from memory.
This is the desired fruit from memorizing the Qur’an: that a person eventually reaches the point where he doesn’t need to carry the Qur’an.
Using this method, you can memorize the Hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ and anything else you want to memorize.
